PAOLO TIRRO is a pianist who has made chamber music the focus of his activity. His versatility allows him to easily collaborate with different ensembles, spanning the baroque to contemporary repertoire. He makes an impactful contribution at work in duo collaborations, where his sensitivity and adaptability shine at their best.
He is the Founder and Artistic Director of VIVACISSIMO festival, a chamber music festival in Molise, Italy.
Significant events in this season include a recording of complete works for strings and piano by Maurice Ravel, for the label OnClassical Records, co-produced and exclusively distributed by Naxos of America. Moreover, this upcoming summer 2025, he is going to attend the Bowdoin International Music Festival (USA, Maine) as a Collaborative Piano Fellow.
He has recently made his duo debut with cellist Francesco Tamburini for the Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum.
In 2023 the recording project Once upon a time, produced by the Mozarteum University Salzburg, led to the release of the first single Janacek - Pohadka, available on all streaming platforms.
He has performed a live concert with cellist Francesco Tamburini for the Italian RAI Radio3 Suite broadcast La Stanza della Musica.
He has been invited to such festivals as IMS Prussia Cove, Open Chamber Music Prussia Cove, Fairplay Chamber Music in Sweden and Nei Suoni dei Luoghi in Italy. Paolo has also appeared in Cittadella Music Festival, Viotti Festival, Appia Antica Chamber Music Festival, Yamaha Piano Discovery, International Keyboard Institute and Festival (IKIF) in New York City.
He has given chamber music concerts for important Music Societies such as Musik@mera at the Sale Apollinee of Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, William Walton Trust in Ischia Island, Amici della Musica di Bassano del Grappa, Chiave Classica in Castelfranco Veneto, Fondazione Benetton Studi e Ricerche in Treviso.
Paolo has been a scholarship holder at the Mozarteum University Salzburg during the academic year 2022/2023. In 2021 he has been offered a stipend by the Sir Yehudi Menuhin LIVE MUSIC NOW Foundation - Salzburg by being selected as an Artist in Residence. In 2016 he has received a scholarship to attend the Mozarteum Sommerakademie as a prizewinner of the Maria Giubilei International Piano Competition in Italy.
Essential for his training is the advice and mentorship of Claudio Martinez Mehner, Alexander Lonquich, Thomas Riebl, William Coleman, Enrico Bronzi, Giovanni Gnocchi, Bruno Giuranna, and Jean-Guihen Queyras. Contemporary music has always been present in his path, in particular, the work with Simone Fontanelli at Mozarteum University has deeply influenced his musicianship.
Born in 1994, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and Postgraduate Diploma in Italy with Domenico Codispoti, Massimiliano Ferrati and Andrea Lucchesini at the Conservatorio di Musica “L. Perosi”, Conservatorio di Musica “A. Steffani”, and Scuola di Musica di Fiesole. In 2024, he has graduated with a degree in Piano Chamber Music and Lied Interpretation at the Mozarteum University Salzburg with Connie Shih, with whom he continues to refine his musicianship.
